Telling the Story of Biology in the Classroom
We believe that science has a story to tell. The biology storyline is a difficult one to tell and can be told in many different ways. We have focused our storyline around the characteristics of life. We try to focus each unit around a science phenomenon where all students have a shared experience to build their knowledge upon.
Here is the storyline we currently tell in our 9th grade biology. Listed after it are the labs or other activities we use to help engage our students with the content. Some activities may be linked to a handout. We do POGILs that can be purchased from Flinn with many units and whiteboard discourse with much of the content.
The two documents below are our year long planning documents for Biology and AP Biology. Please note that these are shared Google documents within our content area teams and often represent our thinking. It is not uncommon to find comments, and notes throughout the documents.
